Feb 8th, SETTING THE STANDARD
TODAY WAS TO BE THE SETTING OF RITUAL STANDARDS, THE beginning OF HABITS, DAILY TASKS. WE STARTED NOTICING OUR BOAT PACKING GETTING BETTER, MORE SPACE OPENING UP, WE WHERE QUICKER AT PACKING DOWN CAMP AND PUTTING IT UP. WE GOT INTO THE HABBITS OF DOWN LOADING PHOTOS AND VIDEO AND RECHARGING BATTERYS AS PRIORITY NEEDED OF THE SOLAR PANELS, OUR STANDARDS and HABBITS WHERE BEING SET.
AWOKE TO ANOTHER STUNNING DAY, HAD A RELAXED MORNING, PACKED BOATS TIMED WITH THE INCOMING TIDE, THEN LAUNCHED OUT THROUGH THE SMALL TURQUISE WAVES, INTO A HOT FUN DAY.
WE SIGHTED A LARGE FLYING FISH WHO TOOK OF INTO FLIGHT FROM IN FRONT OF US AND FLEW A HUNDRED FEET OR MORE AWAY. ALSO SMALL BIRDS PRANCED ALONG THE SURFACE OF THE WATER AROUDN US, HALF IN FLIGHT HALF A WALK. WE WERENT SHORE WETHER THEY WERE TRYING TO CATCH SOMETHING OR NOT. INTERESTING.
THE TROPICAL POSTCARD LOOKING BEACHES OF THE NORTHERN SHORES OF NZ SLOWLY PASSED BY AS WE PADDLED WITH A TAIL WIND AND TUCKED IN AND OUT OF ROCKS AND SEA ARCHES. WE AGAIN ATE LUNCH IN OUR KAYAKS, AND THEN REACHING NORTH CAPE, WE ROUNDED ON TO THE EAST COAST OF NZ.
AT THIS POINT WE MEET A CRAY FISHING BOAT WHO WE CHATTED BREIFLY TO ABOUT WEATHER AND THE FISHING and GETTING GOOD INSIGHTS INTO THE COAST GUARD CHANNEL 60 ON THE VHF. PUSHING ON THE WIND PICKED UP STRONGER (NOW A SIDE ON OF SHORE ONE) AND WE PADDLED JUST SHORT OF OUR GOAL TO MAKE CAMP AT A LITTLE CREEK WITH SOME GRASSY AREAS AT WAIKUKU BEACH
THE SURF LANDING WAS A CLEAN FUN ONE, AND DAVE REALY ENJOYED IT NOW IT WAS NOT SO FULL ON LIKE THE WEST COAST. I ALSO LOVED THE BRIGHT BLUE WAVES WRAPPING UP AROUND THE BOAT AND THEN PROPELLING ME FORWARD TO THE WHITE SAND BEACH AHEAD, THESE LITTLE MOMENTS OF BEAUTY AND FUN, AFTER ALL, ARE WHY WE SEEK ADVENTURES.
WE BATHED IN THE CREEK, ATE WELL ON OUR BACK COUNTRY COUISINE (ENJOYING PARTICULAR THE APRICOT CRUMBLE FOR DESERT). WE CALLED IT A NIGHT AS THE CLOUDS ROLLED IN AND SURE ENOUGH THE RAIN CAME.
